Vintage Shopping Bag Tour

More than any other store, Bloomingdale's enjoys a unique legacy with the arts, most distinctively represented through its historic and historical shopping bags. In 1961, the store commissioned artist Jonah Kiningstein to create a special shopping bag for one of its import fairs. The design was daring for its use of color and for flagrantly omitting the store's name, yet it was unmistakably Bloomingdale's.Over the next three decades artists, architects, photographers, graphic designers, and fashion designers created bags for Bloomingdale's and raised the medium to fine art. For the Artrageous celebration, the store has gathered 60 of these landmark shopping bags for exhibitions in seven stores. It includes works by Neville Brody, Antonio Lopez, Michael Graves, Gene Grief, Geoff Kern, Franco Moschino, Sonia Rykiel, Matthew Rolston, Anthony Russo and Ettore Sottsass among others.Stop by the Designer Boulevard on 4 to see this limited-time exhibit.

The Bloomingdale's and Varvatos Rocks auction has been curated in celebration of this partnership.The auction features six collectors' photographs from John Varvatos' iconic rock ad campaign, signed by the Grammy nominated photographer Danny Clinch and the pictured musician. The auction also features one-of-a-kind musical memorabilia autographed by the campaign musicians. The John Varvatos rock ad campaign captures music legends including Ryan Adams, Joe Perry, Chris Cornell, Iggy Pop, Velvet Revolver, and Alice Cooper. The exhibit will travel to Bloomingdale's 59th Street, San Francisco, South Coast Plaza, and the soon to open Chevy Chase, Maryland store, before coming to VH1 Auctions for final bidding!Since 1997, The VH1 Save The Music Foundation has successfully restored and sustained instrumental music programs in 1,400 public schools in 80 communities across the country.
